Care that starts with safety.
Health and Safety
Because everyone deserves to return home safe at the end of the day.
Health and Safety at Walki is a fundamental part of how we operate and how we care for our people. Our commitment is rooted in the belief that everyone has the right to work in an environment where risks are understood, controlled and continuously reduced.
We strive to prevent accidents by embedding safety into daily actions, leadership decisions and operational processes. Through clear standards, active employee involvement and continuous learning, we build a strong safety culture across all our operations. Our ambition is clear and shared across the organisation: everyone goes home safe, every day.

Corporate
Health and Safety Statement
Our commitment
At Walki, Health and Safety is a core business priority. We believe that a safe workplace benefits everyone – our employees, our partners and the company as a whole. Fewer accidents mean healthier people, stronger performance and more resilient operations.
How we approach safety
Our approach to Health and Safety is proactive, structured and people-centred. We focus on preventing risks before they turn into incidents and on building a culture where safety is part of everyday work, decision-making and leadership.

Human behaviour
We encourage safe choices and personal responsibility at every level of the organisation. Safety is influenced by daily behaviour, awareness and mindset. Through training, communication and role modelling, we promote a culture where employees think before acting, recognise risks and take ownership of their own safety and the safety of others.

Machine and equipment safety
We invest continuously in machine safety and technical protection measures. Equipment is designed, upgraded and maintained to meet high safety standards, reducing exposure to hazards and preventing accidents. Risk assessments guide our investments to ensure that protection is built into machinery and processes from the start.

Learning from incidents
Every incident, near miss or unsafe situation is an opportunity to learn. We systematically investigate root causes, not just symptoms and share lessons learned across our operations. This approach helps prevent recurrence and strengthens our safety performance over time.

Employee engagement
Safety is a shared responsibility. Employees are actively encouraged to participate through safety observations, Safety Walks and open dialogue. By empowering people to speak up and take action, we ensure that safety improvements are driven by those closest to the work.
Safety Vision and Policy
Health and Safety is fundamentally about people
Safety at Walki means stepping up, taking initiative and actively shaping a safer working environment. Our goal goes beyond avoiding accidents – we aim to build safety into everything we do.
We are committed to creating a workplace where:
- Everyone returns home safely at the end of each day
- Safety, quality, efficiency and wellbeing develop together
- People feel confident to raise concerns and suggest improvements
Say NO to accidents
All accidents can be prevented. Safety is shaped by attitude as much as action. By considering safety in every task and decision, we protect ourselves and each other.

Safety starts with me
Each of us is responsible for our own behaviour. Safe workplaces are created through mindful choices and positive role modelling.
Think before
doing
Identifying risks, taking time for critical tasks and acting on hazards are essential. We continuously review our actions to improve safety performance.

Protecting people through clear standards, shared responsibility and continuous improvement.
Safety Awareness Week at Walki
A shared moment to learn, engage and strengthen our safety culture across all Walki plants.
Every spring, Walki organises Safety Awareness Week across all our production sites. This global initiative plays a key role in preventing workplace accidents and reinforcing our commitment to employee wellbeing.
During the week, employees actively take part in interactive discussions, sharing experiences and learning from one another. Hands-on exercises allow participants to experience potential hazards in a controlled environment, turning awareness into practical understanding. Each year, special focus is given to common risk areas such as finger injuries and safe walking.
Aligned with the UN World Day for Safety and Health at Work, Safety Awareness Week reflects our belief that active participation and continuous learning are essential to building safer workplaces – together.
Key Focus Areas
Assess and eliminate risks

Risks are assessed both globally and locally, with special focus on common accident types such as finger injuries and walking-related incidents. Findings guide prioritisation and investments.
Information and communication

Safety information is shared through meetings, alerts and cross-plant communication. Lessons learned are openly communicated to prevent recurrence.
Processes and guidelines

Safety guidelines are developed using shared knowledge across plants. Work instructions are reviewed regularly, and incidents are used as learning opportunities to strengthen prevention.
Involve employees

Safety is a shared responsibility. Employees actively participate through Safety Walks, observations and annual awareness campaigns, ensuring ownership at every level.
Improve the workplace

We invest continuously in machine safety, workplace organisation and cleanliness to create safer and more efficient working environments.
Increase skills

Regular training, focused learning sessions and e-learning modules help employees develop the skills needed to work safely and respond effectively to risks.
Management System
Structured, certified and continuously improving
Our Health and Safety management system is built on globally defined procedures outlined in Walki’s General Safety Standards and supporting guidelines.
Key elements include:
Clear standards for PPE, working at heights and machine safety
Structured incident investigation and corrective actions
Group-level risk assessments addressing major hazards
Local risk assessments at each plant to capture site-specific risks
Targeted safety training based on identified risks
Our approach is reinforced through ISO 45001-aligned certification processes, supporting continuous improvement and consistency across all locations.
Global procedures are complemented by local work instructions, with strong emphasis on onboarding and induction, ensuring every new employee understands safety expectations from day one.
Performance data and progress
Our safety performance shows steady and measurable improvement across Walki operations. The continuous reduction in our Total Recordable Accident Rate (TRAR) demonstrates the effectiveness of our preventive approach, structured management system and sustained focus on risk reduction.
At the same time, the strong increase in Safety Walks and Safety Observations reflects a more engaged workforce and a stronger reporting culture. Employees are increasingly involved in identifying risks, sharing observations and addressing unsafe conditions before incidents occur.
Together, these indicators confirm our commitment to continuous improvement, transparency and proactive safety leadership across all Walki plants.
Total Recordable Accident Rate (TRAR)
Measures the number of work-related accidents requiring medical treatment or lost work time. It is used to track safety performance over time — the lower the rate, the safer the workplace.

Safety Walks
Safety Walks are structured site visits to identify potential hazards, supported by spot checks and brief discussions to reinforce safe working practices.

Safety observations
An internal reporting system enables employees to identify risks, which are reviewed and addressed by the safety team.
